On yesterday’s Earth Day #TuesdayTechTip, Anthony Mongeluzo shared some IT tips relating to energy conservation and choosing recycled products for day-to-day business activities. We’re here to give you a deeper dive into these suggestions.
Use Dark Mode on Devices: Dark Mode reduces the power needed to display bright backgrounds on your phone which can extend your battery life. Did you know that a smartphone can save 39 to 47 percent of battery power used during peak brightness by operating on dark mode instead? Such a simple change can save electricity needed to power your device and generate less of a carbon footprint.
Use Recycle Products: The more we recycle, the fewer garbage winds up in our landfills and incineration plants. Using recycled paper reduces the number of trees cut down and habitats disturbed. Recycling electronic devices allows metals like gold, silver, copper, nickel, and palladium to be recovered. According to the EPA, “One metric ton of circuit boards can contain 40 to 800 times the amount of gold and 30 to 40 times the amount of copper mined from one metric ton of ore in the US.”
Turn On Clean-Energy Charging: To help make climate-smart choices, Apple introduced Clean Energy Charging in iOS 16.1. This feature restricts iPhone charging to cleaner energy resources. With it turned on, iOS will only permit the iPhone to charge up when the local electronic grid provides clean power. To turn this feature on, Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging and turn on Clean Energy Charging.
These examples are the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to simple ways that each of us can support energy and resource conservation. Every little bit matters when we work together.
